The West Midlands Metro is a light-rail tram system running between Wolverhampton and Birmingham. In 2019 it was time to open the extensions that had been built to carry the Metro further into Birmingham City Centre, as the brief involved not only the West Midlands Combined Authority but also the Mayor of West Midlands, the challenge was to find a solution that would both increase the number of people using the Metro and promote the two cities at the same time, so with the help of illustrator Marcus Marritt we created a striking style that has become recognisable to WMM and allows them to build on the campaign for future events. With the West Midlands being home to plenty of iconic buildings the Mayor wanted to showcase, we brought the Metro and these landmarks together in an elegant, sophisticated way that plays on the idea of the Metro taking you there.
